THE ART THIEF

In Michael Finkel's "The Art Thief," the reader gets an intimate look inside the mind, and attic, of criminally romantic and wildly successful Stéphane Breitwieser - who only stole for the love of art. This exhibit features paintings reflecting the book's themes—art crime-based love- and revolves around the priceless 16th and 17th century stolen pieces Breitwieser kept hidden in his mother's attic, some of which she shredded when the police ultimately came to find him. This showcase offers a voyage through thematic selections, from famous stolen masterpieces across the ages to the public trust museums rely on to the art Breitwieser wished he had stolen. In this exhibit, "The Art Thief" invites us to explore the line between passion and perversity, and when we go too far to be close to the things we love.
